Ancient Phocaea

The city originally founded by the ancient Greeks around the 11th century BC and Phocaea became one of the greatest maritime cities of the Mediterranean. Its sailors established colonies as of present days from France, Spain and Italy, making Foca one of antiquity's most influential seafaring communities. Phocaea became famous for producing exceptional sailors and merchants. The city was known for its wealth and its extensive trade routes across the Mediterranean. According to Greek mythology, the nearby Siren Rocks were home to the legendary Sirens who lured sailors with enchanting songs.

Urla

Located on the picturesque peninsula west of Izmir. One of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the Aegean, with a history spanning more than 5,000 years. It was home to the ancient Ionian city of Klazomenai, one of the twelve cities of the Ionian League. Ancient Klazomenai was famous for producing high-quality olive oil and wine. It is home of one of the oldest known olive oil production facilities in the world, dating back to the 6th century BC, where archaeologists discovered sophisticated pressing installations. The philosopher Anaxagoras, who introduced the concept of "Nous" (Universal Mind), was born in Klazomenai around 500 BC. During the Ottoman period, Urla became prosperous multicultural town inhabited by Turks, Greeks, Jews and Levantines, leaving behind elegant stone houses and charming neighborhoods.

Today it is famous for its vineyards, olive groves, gastronomy, vineyards, boutique wineries, olive groves and a relaxed Aegean atmosphere.

Archaeological site of Klazomenai

Klazomenai was one of the twelve Ionian cities and became internationally known for olive oil production over 2,600 years ago. Archaeologists discovered one of the world's oldest olive oil workshops here, demonstrating sophisticated production techniques still admired today.

Day 1 – Istanbul – Izmir – Foca

Early morning, pick up from your hotel in Istanbul and private transfer to the airport for your domestic flight to Izmir. Upon arrival, meet your guide and drive to Foca in approximately 1.5 hours.

After hotel check-in, enjoy a walking tour through historic harbor, old stone houses, Ottoman streets, medieval castle walls, fishing port and sunset promenade.

In the evening, dinner at a local seafood restaurant and overnight stay in Foca.

Day 2 - Ancient Phocaea & Boat Cruise

After breakfast, pick up from your hotel and transfer to the archaeological remains of Ancient Phocaea.

Tour highlights: Ancient city walls, rock-cut tombs, temple remains, ancient theater area and Persian monument (believed to be dated from the 6th century BC).

In the afternoon, boat excursion with highlights siren rocks, hidden bays, swimming stops, coastal caves and secluded beaches. At the end of the boat excursion, return to the hotel.

Dinner and overnight stay in Foca.

Day 3 - Foca - Urla

After breakfast pick up and drive to Urla.

Walking tour highlights: historic town center, artisan street, traditional stone houses, boutique shops, local cafes and olive oil stores. In the afternoon, visit local vineyards with optional wine tasting.

At the end of the tour, return to the hotel for overnight stay in Urla.

Day 4 -Klazomenai & Urla Peninsula

After breakfast, pick up from your hotel and transfer to the archaeological site of Klazomenai.

Free afternoon and overnight in Urla.
