The Aegean coast of Turkey has been inhabited for over 8,000 years, making it one of the oldest continuously settled regions of the Mediterranean. Throughout history it has been home to the Ionians, Lydians, Persians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Seljuks, and Ottomans, each leaving a remarkable cultural legacy.
The ancient city of Ephesus became one of the greatest cities of the Roman Empire, famous for its magnificent library, grand theater, marble streets, and the nearby Temple of Artemis—one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Teos Ancient City was one of the twelve Ionian cities and became renowned as the city dedicated to Dionysus, the god of wine, reflecting the region's thousands of years of wine making tradition.
During the Ottoman period, Alacati flourished through agriculture and maritime trade, while Cesme became an important naval and commercial port connecting Anatolia with Europe. Today, these towns beautifully preserve their traditional stone architecture while embracing modern cafeterias, luxury hotels, boutique shops, art galleries, and fine dining.
Urla has emerged as one of Turkey's premier gastronomic destinations, recognized internationally for its boutique wineries, organic farms, olive groves, and innovative restaurants celebrating local ingredients.
